anyone replaced their heater core?

my heater doesn't blow heat anymore =(
my thermostat just doesn't seem to work neither. does the thermostat control the heater? or do i have 2 seperate issues?

because hot coolant would be leaking out of it into the car, and you'd smell it, for sure.
If your thermostat is stuck open, the car will take forever to warm up (or may never reach operating temp at all) and you'll have minimal heat. If it was stuck closed, you'd have tons of heat, and the car would overheat.

in '90 Acura Legend. I could see very thin "steam" coming through the vents and it had a sweet syrup-y (sp?) smell. (Heater worked, though.) Coolant leaked onto the driver's footwell. Cost a $hitload to fix because 1. It was Acura (i.e. expensive Honda), 2. the techs had to pull out the dash, replace the core, then put the dash back in. Sucked because by pulling the dash then replacing it, you introduce a whole new set of rattling annoyances in your life. FWIW, I hope it isn't so for you.
