I did it about 80kmi ago. I did not cut the maf housing though. If I remember correctly the difference is very small. I think throttle response was a little better but that may have been wishful thinking. Definately hear the turbo more.

as air from outside, so the engine only gets it when it's absolutely required. By drilling a bunch of holes or removing the flapper you're letting the engine draw in warm air all the time, thus reducing overall performance.

Simply cutting that foam strip and giving it a 180 will draw air from away from the turbo. This may also be a nearly worthless mod, but it can do no harm. Don't cut the velocity stack, don't cut holes in the air box, don't drill anything. For the 0.025HP you might gain, the risk is not worth it. Your airbox is your engine.
