Anyone used silicon hose for 1.8T vacuum lines? Did you need clamps?

I've been reading on the TDI forum where it's highly recommended to change the vacuum lines over to 3mm ID silicon line and they are finding they don't even need clamp to maintain a seal (versus my 4mm rubber lines that leak even with some clamps!).
I just thought I would check who has tried it here as I'm sure the silicon lines would last longer and it's carried by McMaster.

that's interesting. my experience has been that silicone hoses are 'slicker' and require constant tension clamps for a good seal rather than regular hose clamps.
basic rubber hoses are so cheap though, I just don't see any reason to get silicone... unless you have a good source!

3mm silicon hose is $1.33/foot at McMaster. It's actually cheaper than rubber hose with braided cover!
