Default Re: Maybe so, but still, many believe this. Probably due to stuf CR wouldn't care about like...

If safety is a concern, 2001.5 gets you side curtains, (not available in 99.5), plus electronic lumbar on the seats.

2001.5 is by far the best year, and the last, for the current A4!!!

Default I agree. I'm talking more about the older models. But then again...

For many, the stock HP and upgraded wheels (which I do like a lot) will be the first things to change on an A4. And you have to admit, the stock wheels suck ***.

Default I agree, 99.5 is the best year. Here's why:

Non-DBW, 1st version w/ 1-piece projectors, the last version w/ the cool 7-spoke sport pkg wheels, all-red dash illumination, and can be had for less than a comparable 00-01.5 model!
I was looking hard for a 99.5, but settled on a 99. Good luck!

Default That is if you want to upgrade. 12Valve A4s stock are not all that slow, and is more reliable.

Before flame wars begin, I'll sing my usual tune: You never know how well that 1.8T was maintained, you are taking much less of a chance with a normaly aspirated 12Valve.

Chipped 1.8T is 7 sec 0-60 12Valve with an intake and a throttle body will be in low sevens and will probably be more reliable in the long run.

Default Re: steer clear of the 12 valve 2.8, which is what all '96 2.8s are...

I am looking at a 96 12v 2.8 quattro as well. It has 111k on it but it was dealer serviced. Only two items that bug me a/c doesnt blow cold and owner is not too sure about the timing belt if it has been changed. I also went on to MSN carpoint and some of the owner reviews are not too positive in terms of reliability and cost to maintain. Help !
