AOA Extended Warranty-sludge

I replaced the oil pump on my 1997 A4 due to sludge buildup 9 months ago. I had zero oil pressure, so I took it into the stealership last week. Initially, they told me that the oil pump was sludged so they will fix it at no cost. Then, after the replaced the screen and updated the pump, they ran the motor. Their finding is that one piston broke somehow and the metal fragements for it (not the sludge) stopped the oil pump.
I have all receipts for all maintenance (since 2000 when I bought it) so I brought things up with AOA. They researched it and said that the metal was unrelated to the pump, thus they will pay nothing. Also, supposedly, the original owner missed a couple of oil changes. I bought it from an Audi dealer so I cannot verify this.
Any suggestions besides the obvious of replacing the engine whis is $5500 with an Audi reman from the dealer.....

I would keep hounding AOA. You shouldn't be responsible for what the previous owner did especially since you are buying it from Audi.

Contact Chris Jensen, cjensen@plaind.com. He's a national automotive writer who has covered the sludge issue in the past. I spoke with him recently about this, and he's interested in hearing from other owners.
He's a nice guy, very helpful.
