Default APR chip installation

Question, I bought a APR chip w/o the ECU. I am not skilled enough or stupid enough to even attempt to solder it on to the ECU myself. Any suggestions to who I might be able to get to install it?

Find a local computer repair shop and see if they'll do it.

Default possible problem

The APR chip I have came out of a ECU that ended in 018P and I have a 018Q. Does this mean I can't use it?

im going to go with no. i dont believe the 512kb 5spd ecus can be coded for tiptronic and vice versa. you need a Q file.

The chips have to be coded for your specific ECU, just taking one out of another car and soldering it on your board probably won't work, in fact I think you'd be way better off getting your ECU flashed at your local APR dealer.

Okay, so I contacted APR. They tell me I can use the chip I just have to get it Flashed with the Tip software. I find my closest APR Dealer and call and see if they can do it. They say fine so I drive almost 90 miles to get it done at APT Tuning. They put the chip on the ECU and the guy goes to start the car and it won't crank. He tells me the chip is bad. I take his word as a professional. $80 in labor for nothing. Well i was pretty ticked and went home dissapointed. I immediately contact the guy I got it from thinking he sold me a bad chip. First thing he asked was if he Vag'd the ECU to switch it from 5spd to Tip. He sure didn't. So I call them back and question it. The guy tells me that my check engine light didn't come on and that meant the chip was bad so there was no reason to Vag it. Does this make sense to anybody?

no cel = ecu did not boot correctly. causes? bad ecu or bad firmware/eprom. so yes, it is possible your chip is bad. although, eproms rarely go bad but anything is possible.
