Attn: 1999 1.8TQMS owners....do you hear a "clunking" noise coming from the engine when you put the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position....you don't have to start the engine to hear this sound....?

The "clunking" sound is not always there but it's there 50-60% of the time that put the key into the ignition and turn it onto the ON position. Sometimes the sound is louder than other times, but is very annoying and does not sound right!<p>I would think that it has somthing to do with starter gear.....?? <br>Please give me your thoughts & experiences with this <p>THANKS!!

This "clunking" sound I have never heard before from any of the cars that I have previously owned......it's eratic......sounds louder than @ other times.......sounds mechanical & not normal......
What in the h#$!@ is it!?!?!?<p>Anyone else have this problem?
