Default audi 96 a4 coil packs

I'm new to working on Audi and VW. But I'm changing the.coil packs and I'm trying to figure out if there are packs for each cylinder or not I seen them on rock auto but I'm not sure if its just a bracket does it come all in one or seperate. Thanx

Why are you changing them? They are probably the most reliable part on the car.

It's just been sitting for a long time haven't changed it and my check engine light is on so I'm doing a whole tune up and oxygen sensor

Have you pulled the codes? Changing coil packs isn't really a part of regular tune up.

Pull and post codes before you buy anything.

Yeah its just telling me three cylinders are mis firing I think air is leaking in which makes it dump more fuel but when I press the gas sometimes u can tell something is wrong like all the power isn't there so I was simply going to replace everything and the o2 sensor

O2 sensor won't cure a misfire. Only misfire codes? What cylinders? If on the same bank, have you checked the cam timing? New plugs?

Which three cylinders are misfiring?

As you have seen here, the coil packs almost never go bad. My originals have 235K miles on them, plus I've never even had to change the ignition wire set. Just replacing "everything" is not a methodical approach, but maybe you have plenty of spare time and money.

FYI, there are three coils, one each for two cylinders. This is a "waste spark" arrangement, so you have two spark plugs firing at the same time, but only one lighting the fuel/air mixture.

Is this a 4 or 6 cylinder engine? 4 cyl 1.8T has coil packs on top of each cylinder. If its a 2.8 V6 you have wires that go to a single bunch of coils. If I remember correctly each coil supports 2 wires.

1996 is 12v V6 only.
You are correct about the coil packs.

Three misfires on the same bank are not a coilpack issue.
