LOL at all you people waiting for a write-up. It isn't that the swap is difficult, it's just that it makes no sense to do it.

1. Buy wrecked S4
2. Dismantle S4
3. Dismantle A4
4. Transplant entire drivetrain and wiring from S4 to A4.
5. Spend several months trying to pass emissions and get it inspected and registered.
6. When it doesn't run right, sell project for considerably less than value of 1.8T.

If anyone spends that much time trying to do that, they would not even bother selling it. So this makes no sense at all. I already had the 2.7t engine lying around my garage for a few years (K04s), just don't have time for the swap. I'd love to do it. And I'll never bother selling it.

You just proved my point!

Dreaming is fun, not always practical though.

A decent S4 starts around $8000, a beater is around $5000. Where is the upside?

I don't call my A4 a beater. You missed my point. Point is if you like your car and need a hobby, this is a great idea. You will not want to ever replace your car.

Disagree. This is not a good idea. If you like your car and need a hobby, take up knitting. If you feel that you need a "get dirty" hobby, buy a broken car and fix it to sell. At no point is this a "great idea".

Wouldn't it make more sense to find an S4 with a blown engine and put your good 2.7 into it? Definitely quicker and probably less expensive in the long run.
