audi a4 ticking from the head
I have an 1999.5 audi a4 1.8t...I just started having problems with my engine, it has only 125,000 on...timing belt was replaced around 90,000miles. When I start the car, there's a ticking noise that comes from the top of the engine. at idle or when warmed it still has the ticking noise. When I accelerate the ticking gets louder as the rpm goes up. Please help.

Check your lifters
Take the engine cover off, and listen to the area above spark-plugs. In my case, I was able to hear slapping sound coming from all the cylinders in sequence, indicating lifter noise.
If the noise comes from one place - cam chain tensioner, I assume it would be more localized to one spot, not sure here.

Cam-Chain...
I can almost guarantee it's your cam chain tensioner. There is a new revision available to replace your faulty unit...prob is it is about $700+ and 4 hours of labor to replace.

While I agree with Quaboosttro's assesment of your problem. I disagree with the price. A 1999.5 Cam chain tensioner is only 194.95.
The K revision is for the AUG and AWM motors.

I agree, sounds like a cam chain tensioner issue, I linked to one just a few posts up.
Here is a good AWM DIY: http://www.passatworld.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=215732
