Default i've been searching the same stuff myself.

Here's the deal:

It can be done but is difficult because working with the bose amp is real tough.

Some say you don't even have to mess with the bose amp and work off the outputs from the headunit itself.

I know you'd have to find a sub rated at 2 ohms.. not sure why but the bose is that way.

Search the audio forum.. they might be able to help more.

Default I am by no means a Bose expert, but if I recall correctly

adding an external amp to the system to power a subwoofer or aftermarket coaxials isn't difficult. Find the appropriate line level converter which could be expensive.
Adding an amplifier to existing Bose speakers isn't the recommended way to go, you'll get a better final product just upgrading the speakers.

Default you actually don't need a line-level converter

And if you did they only go for about $30 iirc. The bose HU has line-level outputs. Search for the pin diagram, there is line level out for front and rear. I used it for my amp / sub.

Default There are output converters as cheap as $5, but you don't want them. For a respectable signal,

expect to pay upwards of $100. Mine was $120, and I don't even have bose.

Also, Bose uses a very low ohm load that is hard to tap into for a decent low level output. "line level outputs" are found on every deck.

Default I don't follow. I'm a home audio guy, but

my understanding is that a line-level output is not amplified and therefore ohms are negligable, and that speaker-level outputs are amplified and therefore not good for connecting to an amp. Am I off base?

Default you're very much right.

speaker level outputs don't provide the best signal to use with an external amplifier, but it's not really that bad with the right adapter.
