Default Sounds good

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I know these questions come up all the time for you.

I was unsure of what grade to get, but I'll take this stuff back and get the 5w30 instead when I go in on friday to pick up the oil filters they had to order - the part about thinner oil makes sense. (fram, but whatever - they were part of the $13 combo)

Default Proline 30257 is a big VW Audi filter from PepBoys $9.99 5q Formula Shell deal.I have one right here

There is a larger Fram model available, I have yet to see it, maybe similar part number??? Since you have the V6, they probally ordered that one. Most places have the small Fram 280302A???

Pennzoil is the way to go w/Formula Shell being a very nice deal w/ a big filter. I would just by more oil than return it. Meh.

Default Fram PH8994

$17.99. They didn't stock it had to order it.

With the special (5 qts + filter) their computer lowered the price on the filter to $2.99

Default So...Fram PH8994 = Mann W 930/21

Similar to how Purolator stuffs a Mann filter in the L30257 box.

The lady at the parts store thought it was a screw up and didn't want to give me the filters. I got em, though. Filled the car up with Penzoil 5w30 and 1.5 bottles (18oz) of AutoRX.

Default You got a good deal on a cheap Mann.

As far as the 5w-30, I dunno what visc you are used to in that engine. PZ 5w-30 will be thinner at cold temps than most synth 5w-40 and it will rev nicer. It likely to warm-up slower too, but the main thing is that the engine ligt be less quiet w/o the muffling effect of a heavy oil. Now, that's the nice thing about PZ though, it is smooth and quiet, so you probally will like it over all. As for the ARX, say at least 3k. The rinse phase can definately be short, that's partly why I was recommending the Shell dino, for the rinse. Another variation would be to reuse the current filter for a portion of the rinse phase, drain it out yeah, but make the rinse phase the one where you change filters halfway. Just throwing out some ideas.
Remember, the rinse is just to rinse off the polorized ester molecules in ARX from the metal. I don't think that process takes long. Dump the ARX oil, add fresh dino, run it 1k, change the filter, run another 1k, dump the rinse oil for fresh again still with filter #2, and even start over with 1/2 bottle of ARX.
