Sorry Ed, I have to commit a little blasphemy here...
Does anybody know what exactly the OEM cell phone is? (digital, analog, model#, etc?) I see it on Clair for $365 and am curious.
I'm doing Ed's project to integrate my Nokia 8860 - which is extremely cool and will save me $150. I was just curious about the OEM phone and whether or not it could be set up to use the same phone# as my other phone.

Your provider will probably not like the idea of two phones one number tho. They might charge you extra..
Honestly, the Audi phone is an old POS, I'm suprised they still offer it. I'd much rather see them go the MB route where they support an integrated StarTac series handset

1) they want you to get 2in1 plane and pay more $$$
2) cloning is a weird thing, sometimes both phones will ring, sometims only one or the other.
3)Potentially, you can listen in on the conversation from the other phone.
4) You can not use both phones at the same time (not that most people will want to anyway)
5) You could get one number for the familiy and lets say 3 different phones using that number. This will work well for families were cells are not used very often by all people, but will result in less revenue for the carrier.
I am sure there are a few more reasons, most of wich are pointing in the direction of them making less money.
One of the dealers here in Toronto began offering cloning a few years back. He got sued by the cell companies and he actually won the case, but cell companies revoked their licences from him, so he is not allowed to cell their plans.
A friend of mine can clone motorolla phones with ease. Apparently there is some code that you enter that gets you into special programming mode of the motorolla phones and from there you can change the esn number. For most other brands you will need a datacable and pc software to do it.
