Default Audi is a German company, not American - therefore the German pronunciation of the "au" phoneme.....

is appropriate, don't you think? "au" is pronounced as "ow" in German. This is why it's pronounced "Owdee".

Also, witness the commercials and the speeches by Len Hunt at the auto shows. If you need more proof than that...you're a dipsh*t. ;-).

- there's a town in Ohio called Versailles, and all the local hicks (including newscasters) pronounce it "Versales", even though it's named after a French city. Blindly parroting mass ignorance doesn't make you right...it just propagates ignorance.

Default 2 points: (1) "Audi" was taken from latin (not German) for "listen", (2) who you calling a dipsh*t?

However, from your message which continues to use the ambiguous "ow" (which is it: as in "now" or "know"?), I can't tell if we are agreeing or not. Who cares anyway.

Default My point (too subtle for you, it seems) is that "ow-dee" is ambiguious...

The reader can't tell if you mean "ow" as in "now", or "ow" as in "know". My photetic spellings tried to mimic how dictionaries might do it.

The choice is:
1. ow as in now
2. aw as in thaw.

Correct answer, according to every Audi of America employee I have talked to, and every Team Joest driver I have talked to, is number 1.

Call ME Cray-Zee, will ya? ;^)

Default you only get to say "awwdee" if you live in NJ...and are a 45 yr old woman who's

idea of a good time is throwing on the old leopard jumpsuit and going to the salon.

Default etymological derivations aside...I'll go with the way the company reps say it, which is:

"Ow-dee", as in, "Ow! Stop pelting me with rocks! I can't help that I'm a dipsh*t for thinking it's pronounced, 'Ahh-dee.'"

Is that enough Blue's Clues for ya?
