Default Audi Rep at Chicago Auto Show

Funny thing, i was talking to the rep about whether the 1.8T would be boosted to 180HP for the new models (just to see what he says) and he said no, but that i can chip the engine to 200HP. He said he had a chip in his, and loved it. He went on to mention that chip tuners advertise in Audi Quattro mag.
Its funny to hear that from a Autoshow rep, who tours the nation with the display. Also saw the Saab 9-3 Coupe. It will be hard to decide between the two!
Re Saab 9-3: from what I've heard and read (Road & track test), they're troublesome

Default Had to make same decison

I choose the A4 because of Quattro and some reliability probs with Saabs. However, the high-output turbi was not avail. when I was looking. For me it came down to the Saab for the convertible or the Audi for the quattro. If you don't have any snow where you live, I would say that the 9-3 is a good car.
Stu Koch
99 2.8 qts

Default About the 9-3...

just remember that the body is based on the mid-80's Opel platform (maybe the Omega), which in the European motor press has been slammed for its lack of rigidity and general "oldness." I was in the same situation and now drive an A4. Make sure you drive both in the twisties and see which one you like.
My $0.02
Eric

Default thats odd....Insurance rating is favorable for Saab.

in fact, the 9-3 along with Volvo S70 are cheaper to insure than my GEO Prizm!
The A4 isn't.....

The 9-3 ( aka NG900 ) is actually based on the Vectra chassis if I remember correctly. And based on the reviews I've seen in Britians Car magazine they 9-3 compares out quite well. Light years ahead of the NG900 and Classic 900 by all accounts in terms of handling.
I actually prefer the Saab 4 cyl over the VAG 1.8. Hence why my A4 is equipped with a V6. Now the new Saab 9-3 Viggen could be an interesting car....
-randy
98.5 2.8qms
93 Saab 9000 CSE

I don't know about the 9-3, but I was considering a Saab 9-5 2.3T, BMW 323i and A4 2.8Q when I was car shopping. My insurance company quoted me $1150 per year for A4, $1400 for the 323i and $1600 for the Saab 9-5. It wasn't that big of a factor in my final decision, but I like the fact that my A4 was the cheapest to insure.
- Rog
'99 Silver 2.8QMS
