Default Oh yes it matters...that changes how far in or out of the fenders the wheels sit...

I've seen wheels scrape on the inside control arm and also the fender lip.

Default Offset is a issue if you are going with wider tires and wheels and lowering.

7.5" rims can handle 45mm offset through ~ 32mm.

Tires wider than 225 will probably need offsets greater than 45.

Stock S4 rims are 17x7.5 et 45
my rims are 17x7.5 et 40.
Most after market rims are et 35. (some A! wheels were 32mm)
