Default I think I understand. VW wants to handle the luxo market (Passat W8) and maybe keep Audi on...

the sport side of things. Not sure why they'd want to fix something that isn't broken though. Especially if VW will continue to offer low end cars as well.

Default Not arguing that VW's aren't terrific deals. Heck, I love my (parents) Passat. (m)

It's just that I can't really see Mercedes offering $15,000 'entry-level' cars. I think it made perfect sense that VW handled the value based cars and Audi handled the more appearance and performance based cars. I really don't know what they're trying to do with their marketing.

Default It works like this

VWs have all the features Audis *should* have (W8, working cupholders, usable back seats), and Audis have all the *combinations* VWs should have (AWD + manual trans, 1.8T + AWD, etc).

Combine the two, and you have the perfect car for nearly every potential buyer.

Default Mercedes and BMW are both bring over low-end cars

Mercedes is bringing over the A-Class, which looks a shrunken ML, and BMW is bringing over the 1 Series. Hell, even Audi is bringing over the A3. While VW is moving up to compete with the more expensive lines, the others are moving down to compete with the low-end VWs (and Hondas and Toyotas, too).
