Audio upgrade
Hi sound experts,
I am after some advice, I need to replace my speakers in a audi A4 B5. I still have the factory Symphony Radio and speakers. The fronts I think are 4" components, with a 1" tweeter, and the rears are 6.5" coaxials (left already making strange sounds..).
There is a audi speaker adaptor that enable the fitment of 13cm speakers in front doors.
I need some advice.
I think if I only change the front speakers I will be happy with the sound. (With this what happens with the rear amped speakers?)
Should I replace speaker and tweeter or only the speaker in the front?
Should I use Coaxial in the front speakers?
The mounting depth of the speakers should be bigger than 55mm right?
My budget it's around $80.
Many thanks

I replaced everything Audio related in my car, even added two amps and a sub. The speakers in the front are actually 5 1/4" on a 1997, unless they changed it. What year is your car?
If I were you I would go to Best Buy or a local Audio store, and buy a full set. You will be MUCH happier with that choice. You can easily find a full set of speakers for 80 bucks. The wiring is pretty straight forward and easy to do.
The only downside that I found was that Audi decided to make the mount for the speakers on the doors extremely custom to the speakers already mounted. The back isn't too bad because you have a lot of room to work out. You are going to have to do a bit of re-fabrication on the front doors because they won't fit perfectly.
Also keep the tweeters, unless you want to replace them. It's not really crucial because most new speakers have tweeters built into them.
Also have you replaced anything else Audio related?

Thanks, mine it's from 2000 avant, so the fronts I think are 4", with a 1" tweeter, and the rears are 6.5".
I didn't replace anything yet. The radio symphony and I think speakers are bose at least they have a little plaque like this "bose":

just added Boston Acoustics S65 in the rear and S45 in the front doors (leaving the tweeters) and it sound 10,000 X better!!! you need to keep the amplifier that is mounted on the back of the driver side rear deck speaker!

Try Crutchfield
I would recommend Crutchfield.

They've been great everytime I've used them for car (and home) audio. They provide wiring harnesses and kits to ensure things fit the way they should. I've used them for four cars and everything worked great.
