If you had a lot of mods that could not be removed and you were just really "in love " with it,maybe
You would need the trans, shifter, linkage, pedals, pedal brackets, hydraulic clutch system, the ECU for a auto has a dif. chip program(get a chip for a manual),I don't even know what you would do about the auto trans ECU(Don't know if unplugging it will be enough).
I wouldn't do it.
Get a tip chip(if you have tip),if not some company converts the nontips to tip(don't know if it's worth it). Better to look for another car.

Don't know if this helps, but...
My dad drives a Thunderbird SC for his winter car. It was my mom's old car and is automatic. He asked the Ford dealer what it would cost to convert it to manual. I don't remember the exact price, but it was insane...in the $2k-$3k range. Obviously he didn't bother.
The A4 is certainly a completely different animal then a T-Bird SC, but I'd imagine that the cost wouldn't be much different. The transmission alone is probably $1500, plus all of the interior trim changes, and lots of labor.
Ask the dealer. They can't charge you for asking. But it isn't worth it in my book.
