Default Automatic Transmission Oil..Not one substitute out there?

Hi, I'm a newbie to your site.

There has been so much debate on Audi-VW ATF vs other brands that I'm completely confused.

I live in a country where it's really expensive comparatively to use Audi's original ATF.. especially if one needs to flush the system with a few changes!

My question is..
1) Is there any substitute out there for that 'original stuff'?
2) Does anyone exactly know who makes the stuff and what rating it is? Dexron II, III?
3) Anyone tried Redline or Mobil1 synthetic stuffs before? If you did, what grade did you use?

Any help appreciated..

Default when in doubt just use OEM fluids.... your car wont choke die and rot if you do

some of the over the counter stuff at the local auto stores is NOT compatible with VAG cars.

Default No Substitutes!

Use only VW ATF Part No. G052162A2 which is also ESSO LT 71141. Nothing else is recommended for the Audi Automatics.

Default Audi ATF is "Esso LT 71141" no substitutions but you can find the same oil branded differently

by other OEMs

you can see a complete list of re-branded oils at the link.<ul><li><a href="http://www01apps.zf.com/kst464/ZF_InteroeleV2_download/download.asp?doStatistik=1&amp;doMode=1&amp;mode=3 &amp;doID=1&amp;id=186">your tranny is a ZF 5HP19FLA</a></li></ul>

Default Thanx guys.. help appreciated. Another friend suggested using cheaper..

.. oil to flush the systems first before filling it with OEM stuff.

Sounds wierd to me as it's gonna mix in the gbox or torque converter..
