still, I'd change ATF every 3 - 5 year
To check ATF level, Run car until trans pan is warm to touch. Without shutting the engine off and gear selector in P, take drain plug off with a big 17mm(?) hex. If ATF is dripping out a bit, then you are fine.

There is a process...
... amounts to getting the car to correct temperature and fingering the hole (yes thats what I said).
Put you finger in the fill hole and see how far up the fluid is to the top of the lip.
