awe-giac ecu on ebay
I've been eyeing this ecu, but with the ability to be flashloaded w/ the 'M' version would it be smart to buy this one or to get flashed at the AWE shop? Any real difference? I think this is the right version for me. '01 1.8tqm.
also, Why does it cost $500 to get flashed when it's probably a 2 second procedure. If I only could 'borrow' the unit for a few minutes...ugh. This really should be a diy thing.

Post of the day.
I hate it when people don't want to pay for good software, or don't understand why it costs money. Some good engineers and programmers spent a lot of time developing that software.

oh gawd... (longish)
take this story into consideration ...
there is a locksmith in my town. One lady was locked out of her car and phoned him. He was there in five minutes, and it took him maybe 30secs to open the door. He looked at her and said "50$".. she said "what that was so fast how can it be so much". He slammed the door and walked away leaving her keys inside. She said " oh wait no please come back and open it, i'll pay i'll pay." he opened it and said "100$"... she complained again, he closed the door again. She said sorry and had the door opened again and paid 150$ and was pissed. I laughed for so long but it made a very interesting point true. I don't care whether something takes 1 sec or 24hrs, if it's something only a select few people can do you are going to pay top dollar for it. If you think it's so easy... why don't you write your own software ?

didn't mean to start a debate on value of software
just wanted to know the advantages to flashing vs. chipped ecu, if any.
I knew I coudn't post here w/ out some attitude. I've got no problem paying for this as I have before on my VW. Still think $500 is steep though since software duplication is essentially free and the hardware burned chip for my Golf was $125 retail direct from a Giac dealer.
If anyone can elaborate on the flash procedure, I'm sure others would benefit. Also, why would there be different flash programs for the same ecu, MY etc?
