Default AWE Tuning won't fix my GIAC chip...

My car was stalling and had an eratic idle. Finally traced it back to GIAC chip. Installed the stock chip and it runs fine. I'm guessing it is a solder issue so I contacted AWE Tuning and was told they won't fix it. Instead I'll have to send it to GIAC directly and pay $100+ for flash upgrade.

Has anyone had any luck getting GIAC to honor their lifetime warranty on socketed chips? Seems like a scam to have to pay for an upgrade when all I want is my chip re-soldered.

Default don't blame AWE, it's GIAC's policy. and, I agree, you shouldn't have to pay for it. you end up

paying $495 (original chip) + $100 upgrade to get to flash while new customers only pay $495 to get flash.

http://www.giacusa.com/returnsnupgrades.php</a

Default So GIAC won't allow AWE to fix a defect in workmanship?

Since AWE did the original work it seems that they should take some responsibility for fixing the problem.

Are you saying that GIAC will not allow them to fix their mistake?

Would pleading my case with GIAC directly be worth the effort?

Default and, I've had the same conversation with GIAC already -->

I understand they need to cover the costs of someone's labor for the solder work and, of course, their parts (how much can that really be?), but it's not fair to current customers who will ultimately pay $100 more than new customers for the same thing. that's the point that GIAC doesn't seem to want to understand and agree with.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2830352.phtml</a

Default that's something you should take up with GIAC, imo. that chip is not AWE's, it's GIAC's.

and, I agree, you don't want the flash and not looking for the upgrade, you just want it repaired under the original warranty, so that's what should be done here.

Default If my chip hadn't gone bad I'd have less of an issue with an upgrade fee...

Seems like it's really a question of honoring a lifetime warranty in my case.

Default If you have the warranty in writing ... take it up with your State's AG.

Been my experience the AGs take warranties pretty serious and a companies take Ags pretty serious ...

Default I think if it was a solder issue, then AWE would just repair their work, but it's the chip and that

is something you'd have to take up with GIAC.

trust me, I've had my fair share of issues with their IBE that was GIAC's older try at running hardware with different software choices. what a nightmare.
