Default Axxis/PBR Deluxe Brake Pad Failures

Installed set in 02 on a 98 A4 2.8Q MT. In Jan 06, one or the inner rear pads was mysteriously down to the metal ... all other pads about 1/3 worn. Caliper was fine ... so just put new rear pads on.

Last week, while rotating tires, noticed two of the front pads had de-bonded from the backing plate. They were still trapped in the caliper, but were wearing faster and starting to chip at the edges. The other 2 front pads were starting pull away too. This was likely the fate of that rear pad last year.

The PBR Deluxe pads had performed well for street use .. low dust and no noise, not problem with wet conditions, but I've replaced dozens of pad sets over the years, street and track, cars and bikes, and never seen this.

Anyone else with de-bonding problems ... on any brand pad? Our case may be just a bad batch from PBR around 2002.

The only time I saw that happen is when brake fluid came into contact w/the pad.

Default Yes, I have had separation problems (pad from backing plate) in the past...

never with PBR / Axxis you may have gotten an old stock item. However even if it was separated it shouldn't accelerate wear unless there is still pressure on the pad from a faulty caliper or the guides. I would check to see that your calipers move freely on the guide pins, no damage to dust boots, and that the piston retracts easily.

I had it happen with OEM pads, one front and one rear.
