I have heard of that happening a couple of times on here, not sure why it can do that with the timing belt cover in place.
The debris from the serpentine belt must get drawn into the timing belt area.
The other possibility is that at 80,000 miles the timing belt tensioner could be on its last legs and when the crankshaft pulley was momentarily jammed by the serpentine belt the camshafts kept on going.

Well I yanked the head off last night and it appears there was some contact between a couple of the intake valves and the piston heads. Some nice impressions on the piston heads. It appears that the head is scrap at this point too as there is a part of the head that appears to have chipped off by the cylinder 1 intake valves. Found a salvage head minus cam shafts for $250 so I think this will be my best bet.

Ever hit a string or a tarp or something with your lawnmower or weed wacker?
When that belt shreads, the cords get wound around behind the crank pulley pretty tight...tight enough to force their way under and dislodge the belt. I've seen it more than once.
