Well, whats the consensus.......is the B6 1.8 TQ Avant significantly better than the B5, or is the B5 still the 'drivers choice'?

I guess it would depend on how soon you want to do engine mods. I love the B5 (obviously) but feel the B6 is a superior automobile, and with a bit of work can be quite stunning.

I think the B5 is a *much* better looking car, an absolute classic design, both in sedan and avant form. Current Audi styling (across the board) leaves much to be desired IMHO.
I also think the B5 interior instrumentation is better - plus you get an oil temp gauge. The B5 chassis is also a bit lighter, but apparently the B6 is much stiffer, so I would think the handling is improved.
Having said all that, I haven't driven a B6 yet, but they're supposedly a very good platform to start with if you can get past the exterior.
