helped larry h do the b6 susp. install...
<a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/482472.phtml">it sucks!</a>
when going from stock to stock sport, or stock to anything- the springs are so long, that even when everything's disconnected and the lower cntrl arm is at it's max the spring still won't pop out- fine, not that big a deal. get a spring compressor and the way the arms are- it takes forever to get ths springs compressed.
if going from stock sport to something else though- it's a lot easier!...i'd rather do my b5 install 10times over again than to do the b6 stock height ever again!

It's small enough that it fits into the rear tire well of the B5. Might work well for the B6, in light of your dilemma.

shame we didnt' take pics, but the spring compressor we had= the bolts were long, so we had to put the bolt end on the bottom- otherwise it would've been screwed into the lower arm- problem with this- you can't get a socket on there=pain
taking it off with the airgun=teh ****.
eh well, at least i know a few things about the suspension that i didn't know before
...
quick Q- is there only one side to that compressor? wouldn't that make the spring arch too much= means we won't be able to get it out anyways? judging by the design- i'd say we still woulda had problems with that...

Done several B6's using this. While it's not the recommended tool it does work somewhat with some fuss.
Cuts install time down to about 2 hours.

I'm sure he's probably done the B6's a few times over, and he has the same compressor I have.
Anyway, no, the spring won't arch. Athough the backbone only exists on one side of the spring, the "fingers" that slip into the spring coils are forged steel, angled to match the angle of the coil windings, and they wrap around 50% of each coil winding. The RTI does a great job of evenly compressing the coil. Just not sure if there is enough clearance to fit it into the rear wheel well on the B6. As you said...you still need room for the "backbone" and access to the drive nut on the end.

we had both the bentleys manual and a install we found on audizine- three parts we were wondering about.
1. going from non stock- it is nessecary to use a sping compressor on the rear correct?
2. on the audizine article/instructions they say (the last part before taking out spring) is to take out the lower rear link- we did it on the first side, but realized it did nothing and left it in on the other end= did we or did we not need to take it out (alignmment will be done soon)
3. on the driver rear, we tried to loosen the two bolts that fasten the brake line to the body of th ecar- but it didn't budge- we ended up just taking off caliper- have you ever seen this problem (where the bolts would move, but not move out?)

I charged the batteries up and cleaned out the memory card. Sunday early morning modding is one thing I fail miserably at. See why I like to get home early at 2am now? :-p
