Back Bumper Durability

While I've found my new A4 a generally well-put together vehicle, I have one complaint: the back bumper is far more sensitive to chips and nicks than that of
most any other car out there. And I've noticed this on all A4s- the back bumper generally shows more minor damage than other cars with many more miles. Is there anything that can be done about this. What's the reason? Soft paint?

hits .. BUT let me tell you how friggin tough it is ...
I got into and accident and the other guy hit me pretty hard and the bumper had only a crease in it. no paint came off ... nuttin.
just a crease .... I had the bumper replaced but it is tough as hell !

I have no doubt the bumper itself is well designed..I'm just talking about the appearance. The car is new, but the bumper looks five years old already. Is this due to "soft paint?" Can a body shop remedy this?

I can find any damage to the bumper. I'm gonna bring it in to the dealer just for a look see and (since I need to wash it and the day's are pretty short) I can't see any scratches very well, if there are any. So I'd say it's a Magic Bumper!
