back seat
I have an '85 Jetta GL and have an A4 on order. When I tested the A4 I didn't pay much attention to the back seat. But I have heard the A4 back seat is small. I was wondering if anyone out there has experience with a Jetta and A4 and how the back seats compare.

Re: back seat-A4 Sport vs '85 Jetta GLI
In some ways the Jetta has a bigger back seat. In that I think the front seats come back further into the rear seating area, especially if your tall. ( I'm not ) but I don't really think that for passenger comfort there is much difference. The rear seats are pretty well sculpted out for leg space. A couple of main issues that affect rear seat space, the hump for the driveshaft takes away from rear seat room. Also, the seats are more formed than the bench ones in the Jetta, better comfort vs less space.
I never really noticed the difference until I went to put an infant seat into the rear. What just fit in the Jetta, almost doesn't in the A4.

It's strange, the A4's rear accomodations seem smaller but...
...when you actually sit in it, you realize it is bigger than the jetta's, especially head room! I just compared this with a friend's 1999 jetta and it seems like the jetta's rear seats are more elevated thus tighter for tall people.
