Default I agree on the ABA block

I went with the AEB block w/ ABA crank, and having known what I know now, I would have went w/ full ABA.

I do not like having to grind the cylinder walls, or the oil squirter for cyl #4 (with the spacer, it comes really close to the 60-2 wheel) The R/S ratio is not ideal either.

my machine shop said I was crazy to cut the gear down on the oil pump to clear #4 rod as well, they swear it will fail, hopefully it won't.

Lesson learned.

Didn't BMW use high-mileage blocks for their old F1 turbo 4cyl?

Default Why not AWM? I know very little on this subject, but I have read it is the "easist" to get to...

2.0L. You can just drop in the mk4 crank or have the proper gear pressed on the euro B6 2.0TFSI crank (and a bore of course). Just spitting out what I read at the "other place". Any reasons why not an AWM/06A??

Half way down the first post..."Now on the 06A block..."<ul><li><a href="http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=188078">Sorry for linking to the "other place"</a></li></ul>

Default There's a lot of ancillary BS that needs to be sourced to convert to an 06A from an 058.

More of a hassle than I want to deal with.

Honestly, I don't see why the ABA would make such a better platform; people have been stuffing 92.8mm cranks in 058 blocks since VW rolled out the 2.0 16v in 1990. It's a proven configuration as far as I'm concerned.

Default I have an AWM. Im lost here, why would you convert an 058 to an 06A, just get an 06A block to....

begin with? I guess I should have been more clear. If your end goal is to build a 2.0L stroaker, why not start with an 06A if its so much "easier"?

Default How much for a 350whp plug-and-play engine?

Just curious.

Default The AEB with clearanced walls and a shaved intermediate shaft gear will be reliable...

there is nothing wrong with that, especially with the power you are putting down. For higher HP applications, though, I'd go ABA for sure. And like you said, the rod:stroke ratio is better on an ABA...that is why I like it so much!

If I do it, a lot, if you do it with an ABA $5-7000 depending on amount of head work you do

Default At moderate power levels its OK, higher levels ~, check the piston speed at 7200 if you like

It really doesnt breath well at higher rpm. Rod ratio is not that great. If you cant look at the specs on the 2 engines and see the difference and the advantages of the ABA then build what you need. You will essentially use a stock block and wont have to worry about cutting down **** to make it fit and work. Do what you want, I dont care, I wont be picking up the pieces. I did give you good advice if you want to build a STRONG engine tho.
