Default Re: The keys are usually locked up with the packet that has all the keys and the owners manual.

At my dealership I can't even touch the keys to cars that are sold or were ordered for a customer.

very reliable, burns no measurable oil, etc.

Default A "demo car" may also have been used as a service loaner car.

My wife's 9-3 is in the shop and she is driving a new loaner with 1000 miles on it. If it was a loaner from the start, it would less likely be driven as hard as a sales demo. It's the same car as she drives everyday, so there is no need for her to test its performance.

Sometimes, if it is pretty high mileage, like 5-10K, it may have been an "executive car" given to a company executive to drive as a company perk. I would bet they are even more likely to have been driven responsibly.

No guarantees though...always a risk in any case.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=161"</a><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/a4registrydl.jpg" BORDER=0></a>

Default My wife got an '01 loaner with 42 miles on it a couple weeks ago. We added about 100 to that.

Default I wouldn't touch one

Years ago, took a demo out when I was considering that make car. Palisades Interstate Pkwy in NJ - old divided highway with drain culverts on the side. Well, salesman kept driving in far right of right-hand lane, hitting each ot the drain culverts (which were prob. at least 3" lower than the road surface), saying "Look, see how smooth and comfortable it is!".

Local dealer also has just tossed keys to a car to prospective customer and told them "take it out for a test drive". Wouldn't surprise em at all fi they were driven hard from the get-go with no warm up. ON a manual tranny too, wonder how many drivers really know how to drive one.
