Default Bad Idle Air Control Valve

Had to replace my Idle Air Control Valve (idle stabilizer valve) today. Audi had many problems with this valve in the past, which needed replacement very often in their 80's cars. Has anyone else out there had to replace theirs?
BTW, the symptoms - idle hunting and 1598 engine code (poor performance/high fuel).
E
2 96 A4QM
1 86 4KS

Mechanic told me I needed a new one once, took the old one and washed it out with carb cleaner and lubricated it with silcone spray and it worked just fine. It's a very simple (but expensive ) part, as long as the coil is good there is not much else to go wrong.

Old (80s) IAC valve was different. I had probably the same problem with 93 90S 2.8 V6. Just removed valve (easy), and cleaned inside with Q-tip and naptha solvent, works 100% ever since.

Default Where is this valve located?

My idle drops almost to zero and back to normal instantaneously at least once a day. No error codes.
Where is this valve located and what does it look like? I prefer to clean and lube myself first before I take it to the dealer and have them mess something else up!

Bob,
My car had the same symptoms - idle would drop to zero then shoot right back up. This would happen about 2-3 times a day.
I would bring it in if I were you. I used to clean the ISV valve on my 86 4000S - not the same as replacing it. Since it is free, get a new one. My service manager says that he sees many 96 and 97 12V owners with this problem. Some have the error code some do not - it all depends on how often the valve sticks.
Good luck,
E

Default E.....still would like to know where it is located!

I will probably ask for a new one on next oil change.
I will probably change this myself next time as the warranty runs out.
If you don't mind.....Where is it and what does it look like?
Thanks,
Bob
I don't know where it's located in the 12V. I only cleaned my I5 4000 ISV. It used to look like a huge PVC valve with an electrical connection.
E

I had this valve replaced at 30,000 miles. Experienced stalling several times when coming to a stop. No problems since.
1.8T Auto
