Bad throttle body = rough idle?
Anyone had a throttle body fail? My '01 1.8T was idleing a bit rough, so at the next service I mentioned it. I figured it was worn plugs, I'm only 5k away from the plugs needing to be replaced. But they said the TB was bad...
Eeek. Seems every time I've got the car in for service there is some minor detail that needs taking care of. And the fix is always an expensive part.

Re: Bad throttle body = rough idle?
I am not sure if the 1.8T has the same problem as the 2.8 but the idle air control valve tends to stick around 50-70K miles. This causes a jumpy idle and can cause the car to stall. It doesn't need to be replaced, just cleaned with WD40. It should be mounted on the back of the intake manifold and held on by three studs with one wire connector. Take it off and spray some WD40 or carb cleaner in there a couple of times and reinstall. Run the car at temperature for a few minutes to get the valve working and lubricated.

Ya it's a DBW motor so all the idle speed is controlled by the same throttle blade...
It's just rough tho, no surging really...
Hmm..part of me wonders if it's a real problem, part of me wonders if it's just the dealer shotgunning a bit.
