Default Bad throw out bearing or glazed flywheel???

I have a 98 2.8 manual with a stage 2 SPEC clutch and an unorthodox racing LW flywheel. One day out of no where i heard a loud squeel when engaging the clutch in first gear from a stop. The clutch is still fairly new with only 30k miles on it. Broken in properly too. When it squeels it feels like it is slipping but once it catches it is fine and only occurs from a stop. It doesn't make a noise in any other gear and it holds strong and does not slip under acceleration. Did i glaze the flywheel or is my throwout bearing bad? Any help is greatly appreciated because the noise is annoying and i want to get to the bottom of this.

Default The TO bearing would cause a noise when you had the pedal on the floor...

not while the clutch was engaged... Could be glazed I suppose, or it could be just friction material built up in a spot. Strange that it doesn't do it in other gears.. Are you slipping the clutch as you get moving?

I'm not slipping the clutch anymore then normal to get the car moving. It doesn't do it on hard launches at all. I may just wind up taking it to my mechanic, hopefully he can tell me what is wrong....

Default There isn't anything wrong. It is a 'feature' of the SPEC stage 2 friction surfaces.

Do a search on here and you'll find threads discussing this issue.
It is compound that has adhered to the flywheel from 'excessive' slipping of the clutch when letting it out. You can remove this by making several hard launches in the 4 k rpm range. It is likely to come back over time ... especially if you don't let the clutch up quickly when letting it out in 1st as a matter of routine.
