Battery help (long) and yes i did STFA
so last 3 mornings car progressivly harder to start and it barely fired today 2000 so im sure its the battery on its last legs the battery indicator reads a solid 14.1 when motor fired and when I got to work I shut off and re fired 2x and starter was strong and it fired right up.
My question is the dealer wants $118.83 for the battery and 1 hour ($95.00) to install as he put it (They said..."need to reprogram the computer in addition to the TBA or else it will not pass smog") I am fairly new to this car and Id rather do it right the first time than try to make something fit (Optima/Oydessy).
so any advice for a rookie would be helpful!
Thanks in advance!

Price is standard $tealership price, but I'm unaware of the labor.
I've always changed my batteries myself and just had to reprogram the radio to get it out of safe mode. I've never heard of the dealer charging $$$ to do what he's telling you they need to do.
Maybe someone else knows why?

Replacing the battery is a DIY job.
Pick up a battery locally. Interstate Megatron MTP-41, Sears Diehard International, and Johnson Controls Energizer are direct fit, drop in replacements. Optima's are not.
To do the throttle body adaption, you simply turn the car to the accessory switch, and leave it there for a minute or two. You'll hear the throttle body emit some high pitch sounds during that time. That's the adapation sequence.
To fix the windows, simply open them, close them, let go of the switch then attempt to close them again. That will fix the auto-up and down modes.
Good luck!

I think it depends on how long the battery is disconnected..
it apparently takes a bit of time for the caps to drain in the head unit, which can cause the memory to keep the number stored..

took me a moment it decipher YMMV=your make & model may vary...
in the case of Erik the red it may take him a few minutes. Besides it can't hurt to have it before hand. Sort of like a first aid kit/band aids, you hope you don't need it but you have them around just in case.

Some states will fail a car on emissions if there are any faults listed.
Dumb I know but we are talking bureuacrats here ...
When you pull the battery you'll get a low power code. When that code is cleared readiness will be cleared. Readiness will either have to be set via VAG or drive the car enough cycles to set readiness. This is what the dealer is telling you he needs to 'set' in order for you to pass emissions.
