battery light comes on under heavy load

battery light comes on under heavy load
anyone experience this? i'm utterly confused as to why under heavy loads and high rpm the battery light comes on until i lift the throttle or the engine shifts n rpm drops. then the light goes off. also, as soon as the light comes on the voltmeter on the instrument panel drops to around 10-11 when it's usually around 13 volts...any ideas?
