Default The belt on a 2.8q deflects 1/2" - should I worry? (repost for the night crew)

Searched in the forums for a little while, nothing found. Hoping someone knows.

It's a 30v engine and I think the belt is named "serpentine" belt. It's the one that's closest to the front and drives all accessories.

Also, the belt has perpendicular cracks on the raised ridges (pulley side). It seems that they're there due to the flexing of the belt, but I'm concerned if it's on the way out?

I'm going to inspect the t-belt, water pump, etc this weekend, any suggestions what to look for?

She has 48K on the counter.

Default It is self adjusting....

But the cracks are an issue. I'd replace it.

Default Belt has cracks, you are at 50,000 miles...

yep time to replace. They recommend 60K intervals, but I'd recommend sooner sometime. Get it done.

Default Self adjusting yes, but should it still be this loose...

The cracks do worry me. She only has 48K on the odometer and I was going to wait until 60K or at least until end of this summer, if not until next summer. Are you sure the cracks is not something that every belt will have after some time due to stretching of the rubber material?

Thanks.

Default

Are you sure even tiny cracks that are on rails of the belt are not normal?...

Default if you see cracks on the inside of the belt

where the grooves are...it's time to replace.
At 50,000 miles anyway, time is up for it.

Default The belt is like a 30$ part....just change it and stop worrying

It takes a 17mm socket and breaker bar/long ratchet and about 5 minutes of work to change the serpentine belt.

Default That's what I figured...I was trying to find an excuse to get by through the summer...

and do it at end of August. But It'll probably make me worry driving to the beach during the summer.

Time to start looking for parts I guess.

Thanks.

Default Do you think changing the serpentine belt by itself is a good idea?

I was going to do everything together.
