someone fix his rim in NYC for cheap...something like $40 I'll ask him where he got it fixed, but the rim looks like nothing happened...works fine too. How bad is your damage???

Call the township's municipal building where you hit the pothole and tell them you need to file a claim due to damage to your vehicle from a pothole/road hazard. They will mail you a long form which you need to fill out and send back to them. In addition to the standard form, you usually show them proof of insurance showing how much your deductable is. Since the townships are non-profit entities they will only pay what is not covered by insurance. Usually one wheel and tire are under $500 deductable so they pay. If this happened in NJ, which I hope it didn't, the state has changed the law requiring you to inform them of a dangerous road condition before your vehicle suffers damage from it. Essentially this means you would have had to tell township about the pothole that you hit well before you hit it. Again, this is due to the township being a non-profit entity and their inability to pay all claims or for sufficient insurance to cover all claim. This may be the case in other states or municipalities.
Your not out of luck yet, on the form you receive from the township it may have an area which asks
"What date did you inform the township about the dangerous condition causing damage to your property"
If you state you informed the township a couple weeks before you hit the pothole, you should be ok and get reimbursed. How you respond is up to you.

sued the town and they paid for 4 new tires, balance, and alignment. This was just outside new haven in cheshire, ct.
go to the spot you hit and take pictures from all angles to provide reason for you being unable to avoid it.
