Bear in mind, few have experience w/it.I'm a proponent of dino 10w-40 for n/a cars. Ideal viscosity.

So this isn't full synthetic then? And what do you mean by "few have experience with it"?

Default 10w-40 has a bad rep from back in the '70s. Modern 10w-40 is great for Euro cars, synth for turbos.

10w-40 synth is pretty much the same as 5w-40 but without the VIIs and lighter base componets that let it make the 5w spec. You won't see a dino 5w-40, because it's not reliably made without synth base oil. 10w-40 can be made with dino, also with synth. In the case of Syntec 10w-40, it's ideal as far as viscosity since you won't see cold temps now. 10w-40 dino is good for lower temps in a n/a engine, as cold-flow is not so crucial. Not a lot of people opt for 10w-40 dino, as back in the day, there were VERY poor formulations out there, coupled with "new" emissions systems on domestic cars. Major sludge was the result. Now, people have these Euro cars and mechanics fail them from ignorance in 2 ways. On one end, dumb Jiffy Lube guys put in bulk 10w-30 or 5w-30 without a clue that they need a thicker oil...not an issue for them because they don't stock anything else anyway. On the other end, you have guy with a lil knowledge, but they think you ONLY can use a MB BMW, VW approved oil, a 5w-40 synth. Hell, customers are just as bad, not coming in for another oil change intil the dash light comes on because the change costs so much with the approved oil/mechanics bill, and they end up having engine probs too. Nobody seems to get it right. The solution is decent intervals on decent oil that is thick enough, but cranks in cold. That oil is $2 dino 10w-40. 5000-6000 miles in a MB BMW or a friggin beater Golf....it works fine. Now, the Syntec 10w-40, yeah, it's a Synth oil for your turbo, but I'm just saying it's ideal VISCOSITY wise. As for n/a cars in general, like my Acura, especially DIY changes it's more cost/effectivee to use dino oil that costs 1/2 as much and change 2x as often. Say 5k changes on dino vs 10k changes on synth....better result with the dino oil for the same cost. Believe it or not, good dino can go 10k w/o a problem in a clean engine like a Honda.

Default Thanks. After owning 15 Audis & good friend w/BOSCH Service Center I picked up on things because

I'm pretty (house) poor. Learned many self-taught house skills due to not being able to afford a "pro". Nevertheless, I have a few historic rehab/investment properties. Same thing went with the cars, although my mechanic helped a lot, you know the deal, self diagnosis and preventative maintenance is priceless. I have to credit AudiWorld, but BitOG has some pretty smart guys. My major was History and Sociology of Science, so doing the Jack-of-all-Trades thing is normal for me. In fact, Tribology is a pretty cool H&SS topic, from lubing Roman Chariot wheels to aerospace lubes for satelites and of course, the good 'ol Lunar Rover. lol. Most stuff is just logical thinking and not taking the 1st opinion you hear as fact for the rest of your life. Be flexible.

Default I used GC in my car with dry sump and when oil heats my oil pressure is at 18-22 @ idle

Which isnt enough for oiling the camshafts. I am going to a 20-40 Dino oil with extra zinc added for anti wear. This should move my oil pressures to 25-30 @ idle.

Can anyone tell me why synthetic is such a big deal? The only cars I have ever had problems with were on synthetic. I am using Pure Power now and everything I can find says it is more than equivalent to synth.. The synthetics use poly to thicken for multigrade which deposits a waxy substance on tour internals. Please educate me as to why the push on synthetics?

Default Is maybe the same person who told you 20lbs pressure was insufficient is who said synth = polymers?

There is a formula for OP at idle, I don't know it. I can't take a ton of time right now, but synth oil does not contain polymeric thickerners. Modern VIIs are much improved and do not shear into waxy anything. Check your source, sounds like a sales pitch. Check your set-up too. Maybe take any questions you have about oil to Bob's as you can get better info. fwiw, Abt and other Audi Sport DTM cars use GC. Remember, you can have more flow with less pressure. more flow = more cooling. Thickening oil to increase pressure decreases flow. Gotta go.
