this is on my boy's a4. on the pass side where the inner axle bolts to the piece that comes out of the tranny, that whole thing is shaking. it has a good 1/16 to 1/8 of play. the axle is not loose. when i hold the axle and shake it i can see the tranny part shaking with it.

is this possible to fix by jusy taking out the axle and going from there or is this inside the tranny now? the car is dropped and i think stress over time did this. now hes gettin a nasty vibration when driving at a certain speed and up. its def not the wheels because we put on a different wheel and it did the same exact thing. any ideas? thanks

Could be the carrier bearing in the transmission, or problem with the flange, or, if you're lucky, a bad inner CV joint.
