Bike carrier on sedan

Wondered how you folks with the A4 sedans transport bikes. I just bought a bike and a trunk carrier because I don't have rofracks or a receiver hitch. Didn't want to get either and fiance doesn't want me spending $35,000 to get an avant as a bike carrier.
I bought the Saris bones 3 bike carrier system. Used it today with 3 bikes, scared me at first, thought the trunk lid was going to pop off. No scratches or dents yet (scared me that it would dent the trunk lid as well).
Does anyone else use a trunk carrier?

http://www.saris-products.com/racks/801.html</a

I would not trust a trunk lid mounted carrier. I definitely would recommend either a yakima or OEM audi roofrack set up. Much more stable, just does not look too pretty. I just don't feel that the trunk lid was designed to hold 50 lbs of bike (if you have two relatively light bikes or one heavy Huffy). Also, if you do decide to keep the saris make sure you get some extra bungee cords to keep bikes on the rack from swaying too much. good luck.

The roof racks made for the sedan are the most stable way to transport bicycles. I've used a hitch mount before and the bikes are not very stable at all. The trunk mount increases the chances of damaging my car, and in the event of an emergency, I have no faith the bikes would stay on the car at highway speeds.
The roof racks with accessories tend to run around $400, but they are well worth it, IMHO.
Try the link below for free shipping and no tax (if you live outside of VA). They have great prices on Thule and Yakima (the top names as far as I'm concerned).

http://www.ageebike.com/</a
