Default Bike rack, Carrier bars

I'm looking for a bike rack system for my 99.5 A4.

Looking at clairparts.com I found the following:

Base Carrier Bars (8D5-071-126) 211.00 $US
Bicycle Holder (1F0-071-128-UA) 98.50 $US

For two bikes, that's 408 $US plus shipping (I live in Calgary, so in Canadian dollars, that's even more)

That seems like quite a lot, I can't imagine what my local Audi dealer is going to ask for.

Are there any other GOOD workable solutions or is this the most viable one?

Default Price wise it is about the same to buy the Audi (Thule brand with Audi sticker), after market

Thule or Yakima. it just comes down to what looks good to you. If you can find Saris get that. It is very quiet if you leave it up there. I have Yakima since I started with them years ago and it's hard to just throw it out to start over.

Default I too have yakima...

and have over time, about 5 years, no issues...

I would say check out the aftermarket prices in your area, but yakima/thule/audi(thule)/solaris all seem comparable in quality.

Default Get Thule/Yakima not Audi

Not saying that another car could ever woo any of us away from your A4s, but should it happen you can reuse most of the bits of a Yakima/Thule rack, you can't reuse the Audi rack.

My Avant will be the third car my Yakima rack (bought used in '93) has been on.

Try this place for better prices.

(Alright, the URL thing doesn't seem to want to work for me today)

Default Don't forget Ebay!

I was thinking to myself, "boy, I need to get those doublecross towers", so I thought I'd take a look on ebay. As usual there is some stuff going for close to retail, some really cheap.

For example this auc tion. Buy that, get a new set of clips for about $25 and you're all set to go. A couple bike mounts as well, you're all set!
