Bike rack purchasing advice requested...
Hi guys & gals,
I have a '00 A4 sedan and I'm looking to get a roof mounted bike rack, preferably used. Which brand do you recommend? What advice can you provide when shopping for them used and what accessories I should look for? Lastly, anyone selling one?

Yakima with Rocky Mounts bike trays.

Rocky Mounts are good, cheap, and should be available at almost any bike shop (I think Quality Bike Parts is the wholesaler).
Also, they come in colors like "pimp daddy gold." Or at least they used to.

Rocky Mounts

Not at all
I'm really not, I used to sell Thule & Yakima at a bike shop. Quick differences...
1. Made in the US
2. Door brackets made for Audi, not made for something else and kinda fits an Audi.
3. Galvanized & coated parts
4. Tighter fit on pull tests
5. Square bar stronger than round
6. More products available
...and that's the quick one!
Don't forget you now have a friend in the business to help out the $$!

the thule unit definately mounts well...
you might want to tell them to mark the clamps, so you can id the front bar from the rear while they are assembled. i carry two kayaks on the huliport units, just strapping them to the carrier with no front or rear lines. i have no load movement up to 80mph. i shortened my bars to 43½" so i can store them in my trunk when not in use!
