I really dont know if I need a MAF or a MAF & a gearbox... or what.
At 7AM I'm about 1mi from home and at a red light making a left turn. Light goes green I accelerate up the hill onto the roadway. About 3 blocks later the gearbox wants to do a 3-4 shift but it hangs at 3500rpm then it bangs into 4th gear the CEL comes on and the trans display goes red. ****! This is NOT how I get to work on time, this is NOT what I need to happen a day after I've just done the timing belt (tested car afterwards for an hour, its not the belt job) My IIc plans for the sedan are suddenly in jeapordy and I havent even gotten to work yet. What a great monday morning.
I make it a lil bit further along in my commute and I stop to kill and restart the car (trick I learned from JoeyT) so I could get it out of limp mode and maybe drive normally agian. It worked for a few miles maybe 10... then it reverted to limp again. I was on the highway so I just let it ride... Got to the Nyack area and at a stop light I killed and re-started to get it out of limp mode.
Between arrival at work and lunch I was really an unhappy camper. The codes pulled at lunchtime indicated that the MAF had shat itself real nice and that the engine load signals were not correct. So the TCM went into limp mode. Sounds feasible to me... I dunno since I dont have much experience with the 5HP19 DRN gearbox. SO to me its all new. Must admit that using the MAF as a parameter for the shift program is kinda daft, but hey I dont engineer em, so whatever.
I order up a maf next day, its warranty or so I'm told, I really dont care at this point. If it fixes it great.. if not then I need to source a DRN gearbox or send out mine for a rebuild which wont be cheap... an exchange of the box for a rebuilt one is $2200. Thats less than half of what audi charges list price for the gearbox reman. So even if I'm getting fvcked on a sawhorse with a rusty steel pipe... I can at least be happy that its the smallest pipe in the dump.
My brian hurts... what a crappy monday. Maybe tomorrow will be better. However I have a feeling the colder morning air temps and my diseased MAF + possibly hypocondriatic TCM will repeat this morning's demonstration of why I hate automatic gearboxes.

my car shifted rough, I cleaned the throttle, the MAF, and the intake temp sensor, and it was happy as a pig in $hit.
