About Blowoff valves vs. Diverter Valves (Bypass valves)
Hardly anyone here runs a BOV (blow off valve, not to be confused with a BPV, bypass valve or diverter valve- another name for BPV) because they are much less effective for our 1.8T motors than diverter valves. For other motors, they can be fine, but for ours, they arn't. Assuming you can get a BOV tuned correctly to run right, they are still a lot slower to recover than a good diverter valve. Furthermore, BOVs vent to the atmosphere, which takes air away from the intake, and can cause compressor stall, which slows the turbo down. Not good.
DVs are the higher tech, more precise answer to the problem of diverting boost. BOVs are old tech.

It is really really easy, do it yourself if you dont mind getting under your car.
Once you locate the BPV, takes only minutes to swap out with a new one. Just make sure you have new clamps for the hoses.
