Default Blown Bose Speaker, Replacement Question

Hi everyone, I am new here. I have a 2001 Audi A4. Anyway my driver's side front speaker has blown (with Bose system) and I have some questions:

1) I am wondering if I can replace the blown speaker with the speaker listed below [link] (since the Kappa 42.7i runs on 2ohms)

Is this correct size and type of speaker that I should put in?

2) I dont have to replace the tweeter too right? Also, how will the sound quality be since the stock system wont be pushing that much power to this speaker, and this speaker can handle 50W RMS.

3) I dont need any special tools to install them right? Just take off the panel with screw driver and plug the new speaker in i assume.

I dont plan on upgrading or anything. I just want an affordable solution than to pay the dealer 200 bucks for 1 stock speaker. Thanks in advance!!!

Infinity Kappa 42.7i

Default You don't want to pay $200 for a factory speaker ...

... but you're willing to pay $149 for one that may or may not be compatible with your Bose system or sound quite right?

I have the same problem (same model year and same speaker that blew ... kind of weird) and I'll probably just replace both front speakers with a set I find on sale somewhere. I'm sure you can find something for less than that Infinity speaker.

It's on ebay for around 60 bucks + shipping.

The problem with the Bose system is that it runs on 2ohms... most speakers out there are 4ohms. This is the cheapest pair I found that is 2ohms; hence why I am asking.

Default Gotcha

No harm. 60 bucks is a good price for that speaker. I didn't realize the ohms issue. Just wish it was cheaper to replace a factory speaker.

If anyone out there has a set of OEM Bose speakers or even just a front speaker, I'd be willing to take it off your hands for you. I'm guessing Shaolong would too ......

Default That is weird...

...I have the same issue with the same speaker. I assume you can pick one up at a salvage yard or car-part.com

Default My driver side tweeter makes a crackling noise...

Only for a few minutes when I first start the car in the morning in the cold. Its the strangest thing I have ever seen with car audio.

I tried looking at car-part.com but they don't have a "speaker" category. They only cd decks haha...

Default Definitely worse when it's cold

My blown speaker buzzes like a **** when it's cold out. In the summer it's not nearly as noticeable, which is probably why I haven't had it replaced and it's been shot for well over a year. I'm just hoping it warms up permanently in the Pac-NW sometime soon.

I'm guessing it has to be a defect of some kind because I don't even listen to my music that loud.

Default Crutchfield was very helpful when I replaced my rear speakers. (More)

Apparently you can use 4 Ohm speakers in a 2 Ohm Bose system. They are working fine in mine. I put in a Blaupunkt Odc 660 component system in. I used the woofers and the crossovers in place of the rear deck speakers. They sound much better (the bass is not as muffled) and they were cheap on clearance.

Default You want old school? My Blaupunkt New York (about 1983 era) and amp needed to warm up...

before they would operate. You know what it is like in Chicago in the winter? At times I would have to wait 5 minutes before the system would work. It sounded great even by todays standards but the warmup times were annoying. And yes it was sent to Bosch for service for the problem, but they said it was normal and nothing was wrong.
