Default Blown Shocks?

Does a blown shock make any noise? My mechanic suspected the tie rod, however he inspected them and now suspect its the shock.

Any advice?

Default

Bad shocks sometimes make clunking noises.

Default I had a Bilstein (right rear) klunked on the rebound going over minor bumps........

and there would be oil all over the shock.
Blown, meaning blown seal, thats how the oil gets out.
Also, if blown (or bad) push on the car, if it keeps bouncing, shocks are bad. Shocks minimize bouncing, springs take the hard hits.

With a 97' it could be time for shocks.

Good luck

Default I'm having the same problem with my Bilstein.

Same symptoms:

Klunking sound when going over bumps.

I haven't had a chance to take the wheel off but through the spokes the shock is all dirty (from shock oil I assume).

I did the push trick on the corner of the trunk - it's pretty bad - looks like I have hydraulics. The good side barely moves.

Funny that it's the same location - right rear.

Default Thanks, but I'm thinking of a changing...

...to Koni Coilovers.

I'll send the shock to Bilstein when I swap the suspension and just get a new one before I sell them.
