Default blown turbo: wastegate stuck open

i got the car after a maintenance and looky what my mechanic found - the wastegate on the turbo stuck wide open. damn.

so, i have a few options - what does everyone think?
1) new turbo from audi - pricey at $2100CDN

2) rebuilt k03 turbo - $1000CDN

3) k04+exhaust - $3100CDN

ouch.

Default Well, really Jason. What kind of question...

is that?

I mean I think if money weren't a concern I think almost everyone would say K04. But of course, the choice boils down to your budgetary possibilities. Personally I would rather get a new turbo than a rebuilt one, but again the price is steep. But to me, the peice of mind is worth the extra 1100 (even if it is Canadian... hehe).

Anyway, if you want someone to tell you to K04 the sucker, then K04 the sucker! And kick Frank's RSX Type S's *** ;-)

Congrats on the job offer, btw. Good luck with whatever you decide.

If that's the case then get a rebuild. Save now for more fun later with the 2003. My $.02...

I'd sell you my used K03 real reasonable. Has around 10k miles on it. You could swap em yourself.

Default How do you rebuild a turbo? What can they do to it? Why not rebuild this one?

I assume certain ones have little damage and can be rebuilt???

In this case, I'd go with the rebuilt too. Save your money.
