This happened to me...
The tire guy just punched the hole right thru and repared it. I'm not sure how safe your tire is now but I would bet that it is definately a weak spot for a potential blow out. (don't quote me on that though)

Totally agree with this approach - better safe than sorry...
...and the super AR people will tell you that a hole in your tread could potentially introduce water between the treads, which can promote tread separation.
Personally, I wouldnt chance it - especially since we're talking about a $10 insurance policy.
