Default Boost Gauge Installation Idea...could be REALLY sweet

So I was IM'ing with SlverSurpher / Steve and was discussing how I would like to putin a boost gauge but would like to keep it clean and stealthy.

Here is what we came up with...

Place the boost gauge in the ashtray and design a mechanism such that:
1) When the ashtray is closed, the gauge folds down flat (gauge face facing up) and looks like an ashtray, then
2) When you tap it to open, it slides out as normal and the top edge of the gauge angle up maybe 30-45 degrees

What do you guys think? Possible?
Need to start pulling size information on the gauges available?

What are some of the smaller gauges out there that are still good for the audi??

Thanks
Shane

Default I can't speak for ALL boost gauges since i haven't seen them all personally, but they aren't exactly

shallow in depth. Autometer is about 3 inches, blitz close as well. You won't be able to do it i don't think. =o\ at least not without serious hacking of the console

Default someone was talking about doing that with a Blitz Dual TT

it's pretty shallow so it would probably fit, but it's a digital boost gauge not analog

IMO...too low to safely monitor boost on the fly as it's too low to view.

Default I came up with this same idea a while back and....

i got a blitz dual turbo timer/boost gauge which has a digital boost gauge. I wanted to hide the entire unit in my car somewhere and the ashtray, which never gets used, seemed like the perfect place.

I would love if i could figure out some mechanism to make it pop up at like a 30 degree angle when i push out the ashtray, that way i could monitor boost incase something was going wrong with the car, frankly, i don't really care about watching a needle dance up and down while i drive

If you came up with any ideas of how to make this mechanism i'd love to hear your thoughts.

Default This weekend....

I am thinking of taking off the climate control panel and then looking around the ashtray mechanism.
I am thinking that if I removed the ENTIRE ashtray mechanism then there is room...
Would need to make a fake face / front for it though

i was hoping to just hook something to the back of the TT to the ashtray to work like the cupholder
